Getting started
How do I apply for GoPayment?

Start your application online or in the GoPayment App, which you can download from the Apple App Store. You’ll be asked to create a User ID and Password and then to answer simple questions about your business. The application takes ~10 minutes to fill out.

Some of the key info we’ll ask you to provide is:

  • Personal information, like address and phone number
  • The date your business was established
  • Business banking information (you’ll also need to submit a picture of a voided cheque)
  • Annual sales estimates
  • If you own less than 51% of the business, you will need the personal information
for the other owner(s) and must apply online, not in the GoPayment App

We make submitting a picture of a voided cheque easy. If you apply through the GoPayment App on your mobile phone, simply take a picture of a cheque with the word “VOID” on it. If you apply online at the gopayment.ca website, simply browse and upload an image (or fax in a copy).

How do I use GoPayment?

To use GoPayment, simply sign in to the GoPayment App or online. The same User ID and Password work for both.

When you use GoPayment on your iPhone or iPad, you’ll be able to insert your card reader into the headphone jack and swipe the credit card. Then your customer simply signs your screen and you can email or SMS the receipt. You also have the choice to manually key enter the customer’s credit card information without using the card reader. Plus, you can add tax, tips, and items, void transactions, and view your transaction history.

When you use GoPayment online, you can also manually key enter credit card numbers to process a transaction. Plus you can view your transaction history, refund transactions, and void transactions.

How will I get paid?
Funds are typically deposited into your bank account within 2-4 business days (may vary depending on the processing time from your bank). The fees for Visa and MasterCard transactions will then be withdrawn automatically. Per transaction fees will be debited on the last day of each month.
Will you hold any of my money?
You have full access to your funds when they are deposited into your bank account (approximately 2-4 business days after accepting payment from your customer). We will only hold money if we suspect fraudulent activity or if there are outstanding fees.

Free Card Reader
Free App
2.7% per swiped transaction1
3.3% per key entered transaction2

That’s it! No set-up fees, monthly minimums, or commitment. Stop using at any time with no penalty.

Note: Higher rates apply for international cards, commercial cards, or those credit cards that pay consumers rewards for usage. Please click here for more details on our support site.

What is a swiped rate?
A swiped rate is a percentage fee charged on the total purchase price when a credit card authorization is obtained by physically swiping a credit card through the GoPayment card reader. The swiped rate is typically lower than the non-swiped rate because having the cardholder and credit card present reduces the risk that the transaction is fraudulent. The swiped rate for GoPayment transactions is 2.7% of the total transaction amount. Higher rates apply for international cards, commercial cards, or those credit cards that pay consumers rewards for usage. Click here to learn more about credit card rates.
What is a key entered rate?
A non-swiped rate is a percentage fee charged on credit card transactions that are manually keyed into your mobile phone, tablet, or online. The non-swiped rate for GoPayment transactions is 3.3% of the total transaction amount. Higher rates apply for international cards, commercial cards, or those credit cards that pay consumers rewards for usage. Click here to learn more about credit card rates.
Are there any additional or hidden fees?

No. You will only be charged a fee per transaction when you swipe or key enter a credit card. There are no set-up fees, monthly account fees or monthly minimums. If you decide to stop using GoPayment, or never use it after you apply, you will not have to pay any fees. You only pay a percentage of each transaction when you use the service. There are two fees that are rare amongst our merchants, but we want to make you aware of them;

  • If your customer disputes their purchase (e.g. goods never arrived at their address),
they can initiate a chargeback. If a chargeback occurs, First Data will work to defend
your claim against the customers claim. If this were ever to occur, we must charge
$20 to cover the expenses associated with this process.
  • If First Data attempts to debit your account and there are not sufficient funds,
    there is a $25 charge.
Can I try GoPayment before I apply?
Yes, you can take GoPayment for a Test Drive. When you download the GoPayment App from the App Store, simply click the Test Drive feature and you can process a pretend payment to see how GoPayment works. You won't be charged a thing and you don’t even need to create a User ID or Password to use the Test Drive feature.
How soon can I start accepting credit cards on my mobile device?
As soon as your application is approved, you can start key entering credit cards into the GoPayment App or online. In most cases, you will find out if you are approved within 3-5 days. Once approved, your card reader is scheduled to ship the next business day. In most cases, your card reader will arrive in 3-5 days.
When will I receive the card reader?
Once approved, your card reader is scheduled to ship the next business day. In most cases, your card reader will arrive in 3-5 days.
How do I close my GoPayment account?

If you’d like to cancel your account, simply download a form that you can fax to First Data. Find more details and the form by clicking here.

All credit card information is fully encrypted. It is NOT stored in your phone. Even if you lose your phone, there is no credit card data at risk.

Both you and your customers are protected by the same highly rated encryption and privacy protection Intuit provides to its TurboTax, Quicken, QuickBooks and Mint customers.

When you use the optional credit card reader, the data is encrypted by the reader before it reaches your phone. We then encrypt the data a second time before sending it to our secure systems for processing. This security far exceeds the security of other solutions in the market.
